Why Thursday Morning Is Good For Your Brain

Could our Thursday morning meetings be good for our brains? Here are some excerpts from an article entitled How to Train the Aging Brain from the New York Times:

“There’s a place for information,” Dr. Taylor says. “We need to know stuff. But we need to move beyond that and challenge our perception of the world. If you always hang around with those you agree with and read things that agree with what you already know, you’re not going to wrestle with your established brain connections.” .....

Jack Mezirow, a professor emeritus at Columbia Teachers College, has proposed that adults learn best if presented with what he calls a “disorienting dilemma,” or something that “helps you critically reflect on the assumptions you’ve acquired.” .....

In other words, we're messing with one another's brains over coffee on Thursday mornings!

But try this: read the entire article, and then ask yourself - what is my Sunday AM worship service doing for my brain?

You mentioned in your last comment on my post: My pastor this morning mentioned we should rest on the church and it's history for our knowledge. Unfortunately, those who "changed" the paradigm; improved things for the better. I would be burned at the stake, or tortured to death if it wasn't for a few dissenters.
